Workshop: Flex Your Thinking – Techniques for Enhancing Emotional Resilience
By Ioana Balcau-Wolters
Brussels, 28 January 2026
Emotional resilience helps us bounce back, in one piece, from difficult situations and helps us better respond to stressful or unexpected situations and crises. It is a trait that can be trained, just as we train our body to maintain it in good physical shape. One way to do this is by building cognitive flexibility, which is the brain’s ability to adapt when faced with a new, changed, or unplanned situation -- so that our thinking becomes less rigid. Teaching our brains to be more flexible increases our problem-solving abilities and allows for more effective emotional regulation, leading to more resilience.
During this workshop you can expect to:
- Learn what is cognitive flexibility and why it is useful.
- Understand the cognitive triangle (thoughts, emotions and behaviours).
- Discover what are the most common cognitive distortions and how to challenge them.
- Learn a few strategies on how to manage emotions skilfully rather than suppressing or ignoring them.
About Ioana
Ioana is a trained cognitive-behavioural coach, with a strong foundation in psychology. Along with traditional coaching (goal-oriented), she focuses on emotional self-management such as identifying troublesome emotions, self-defeating behaviours and thoughts by using evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (CBC).
Originally from Romania, she completed her master’s degree in Berlin and spent over a decade in the corporate world, of various well-known German companies, as a consultant. Along with her relocation to Brussels, she decided to follow her longtime interest in psychology and neuroscience and is now supporting others in building mental strength and personal resilience to better manage challenging circumstances.
